A COLLABORATION BETWEEN ATTORNEYS MICHAEL A. CAMPBELL AND JOHN CANTRELL RESULTS IN A NOT-GUILTY JURY VERDICT
A collaboration between Attorneys Michael A. Campbell and John Cantrell resulted in a Lake County jury finding their client "Not-Guilty" on all charges. Attorneys Campbell and Cantrell successfully defended their client who had been initially charged with Attempted Murder, as a Level 1 Felony, and lessor included offenses. Under Indiana law, Attempted Murder carries a sentence of 20-40 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections, with an advisory sentence of 30 years (See Ind. Code 35-50-2-4). On the eve of trial, the State dismissed the Attempted Murder charge but continued to trial on the charges of Attempted Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Recklessness, and Pointing a Firearm; all Felony offenses.
During trial, Attorneys Michael A. Campbell and John Cantrell successfully cross examined the alleged victim as well law enforcement officials involved in the investigation. Attorneys Campbell and Cantrell were able to impeach the credibility of the alleged victim while also exposing several shortcomings in the police investigation. The jury took approximately two hours to return with a “Not Guilty” verdict on all counts.
